ACC denies corruption reports against MDP candidate
Shareef is accused of paving scholarship opportunities for students from his constituency

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has denied there being any corruption case against Hussain Shareef, the parliamentary candidate fielded by main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for south-Henveiru constituency.

ACC said this in a statement released after concluding investigations into corruption allegations pinned against Shareef, who is accused of using his campaign funds to provide scholarships opportunities to students in his constituency.

ACC revealed that Shareef had provided scholarship opportunities for students from his constituency before the Elections Commission opened candidacy submission opportunities for the Parliamentary Election.

The commission further revealed that they are not investigating any corruption case against Sirius Enterprises, in which Shareef is a stakeholder.

ACC began investigations Shareef by its own initiative and had even summoned him for questioning.
