The government of Maldives is eager to find new areas of cooperation in order to further strengthen the existing ties between Maldives and Singapore, says Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

Foreign Minister Shahid said at a meeting with Ambassador of Singapore, Chua Thian Poh on Monday.

During the meeting Minister Shahid commended Ambassador Poh’s contribution in strengthening bilateral relations between Maldives and Singapore.

Highlighting that Maldives attaches great importance to its relations with Singapore, Minister Shahid reiterated that Maldives appreciates Singapore’s continued assistance and cooperation towards the progress of the country.

Minister Shahid also highlighted issues relating to the environment, counter terrorism and technical cooperation, going on to enlighten Ambassador Poh on the government’s plan to provide fresh water and sanitation systems to all residents across outlying atolls.

Ambassador Poh further assured Minister Shahid that Singapore will continue to provide technical assistance towards the socio-economic progress of Maldives.

The meeting was joined by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hassan Hussain Shihab.
