A road accident in capital city Malé late Saturday has left a 19-year-old hospitalized for bone injuries.

The road accident occurred when two motorcycle collided a little past 2am on Sunday in Galolhu-ward of the capital city.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that one of the two riders who had gotten into the accident had fled the scene after the collision.

Police also revealed that they are locating the individual that had fled.

The 19-year-old had evidently attained bone injuries to his jaw bone, shoulder bone as well as many bruises on his face.

This comes at a time authorities have enforced wearing helmets on the roads and police have begun stationing check posts to reduce the number of road accidents.

According to police statistics, they had inspected 823 vehicles during the first week of March.

Within the first eight days of the month, 52 accidents had occurred.
