MNDF officers suspended following alleged involvement in MMPRC graft

Major Naveen among the two suspended

Two officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) have been asked to stay home following their alleged involvement in the massive case of graft involving Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

According to MNDF, Major Naveen Zubair and Sergeant Ismail Shakeeb were temporarily suspended, on Wednesday.

MNDF Media Official Captain Azim Ibrahim revealed that Major Naveen was suspended following a case being investigated by the authorities, regarding the report publicized by corruption watchdog, Anti-Corruption Commission.

The report allegedly included Major Naveen’s name under the list of individuals who had received stolen funds from Scores of Flair, the company implicated in the corruption scandal. Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal had last month stated that measures will be taken against Major Naveen.

However, they were unable to bring Major Naveen for questioning as he was out of the country at the time the report was publicized.

Major Naveen had returned to Maldives on Tuesday.

The report by ACC reveals that USD 100,000 was deposited to Naveen’s account by SOF.
