Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s media official Captain Ibrahim Azim has revealed that the boat that ran aground a reef near Hulhumeedhoo island of Seenu atoll has been refloated and docked at the island’s harbor.

Captain Azim revealed that MNDF’s Northern Area Coast Guard had been dispatched upon receiving the report of the vessel, en route to Hulhumeedhoo from capital city Malé having run aground a patch of reef close by.

“Alma” had been refloated and docked at Hulhumeedhoo harbor by Saturday, revealed Azim, adding that they have begun work to drain water from the vessel.

While no one on board had been injured following the accident, there had been five Maldivians and six expatriates on board at the time of the incident.

The bow of the boat had been heavily damaged, and the boat had been flooded by the time they could refloat it.
