President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Saturday sent condolences to the family of late State Dignitary Mohamed Zahir.

Zahir, who served various senior level government posts in the past, passed away at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Friday, after a prolonged illness.

He passed away at age 92 and leaves behind a wife, three daughters and four sons.

Some of Zahir’s notable services include being a parliamentarian for Faadhippolhu, Fuvahmulah city, and Kolhumadulu constituencies as well as being a deputy minister at the Ministry of Fisheries, a Minister of State as well as the Principle Collector of Customs.

On 26th July 2011 which commemorates Maldives Independence Day each year, former President and current government coalition leader Mohamed Nasheed had conferred Zahir with the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen.
