Criminal Court has on Tuesday released two out of the four men arrested in connection to a robbery near SBI bank in capital city Male’.

Police media official revealed that currently detained are two minors and that the other two were released upon presenting them to the court for a remand hearing.

Police abstained from revealing why the two had been released.

The suspects, two 23-year-olds and two minors had their faces covered under helmets and had robbed around MVR 2.3 million from an Indian man near SBI on Sunday. They had robbed the cash after assaulting the man with a sharp object.

Authorities have not yet revealed whether or not they have recovered the robbed money.

Authorities on Sunday began enforcing the new regulation to wear helmets on roads that allow speeds for more than 30 kilometers per hour.

The government has stated that drivers on two-wheeled vehicles are required to wear helmets with un-tinted and transparent screens that identifies the driver.

This is the first such incident to have occurred after the helmet regulation was put into effect.
