President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Maafushi council and senior members of the island institutions on Thursday.

The Maafushi council had briefed the President on their current status and the challenges faced by the island residents as well as their requirements.

The President had been briefing about challenges surfacing for the social sector of Maafushi island.

Some of the issues shared include the lack of plots of land, shortage of housing, lack of space in the harbor area as well as waste management difficulties.

Other issues include road development and difficulties youth of the island face due to lack of recreational facilities.

In addition, senior officials of island institutions sought assistance in development to the island’s health center and to provide more facilities for employees.

President Solih had assured the council members and institute officials that required measures will be taken after discussions are held with the line of ministries to address the issues at hand.

President Solih arrived in Maafushi on Thursday morning in order to participate in the function held in commemoration of International Women's Day celebrations for this year.
