Police cordon clears a road on Dhigurah island
A 65-year-old man who caused a fire while attempting to heat wood at a workhouse in Dhigurah island of Alifu Dhaal atoll has been injured.
The island’s local government council says Abu Bakr, from a house called Asima Manzil, sustained severe burn wounds to several parts of his person, and was treated at the island’s health centre.
Bakr sustained these wounds as he attempted to remove his garments, onto which the fire from the wood had spread.
The fire had damaged the workhouse, a boat docked near the area and some vegetation.
