Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that no island will be left behind by the government in its development agenda.
VP Naseem made this remark while meeting with members of Hirilandhoo island council on Thursday.
Hirilandhoo island council members had shared island residents concerns and future development projects with the Vice President during the meeting held at the President’s Office.
Members had noted the challenges surfacing for the island residents as a result of lack of plots of land, shortage of budget at the council as well as shortage of required medicines at the local pharmacy and issues regarding the dimly lit harbor area.
Having requested for a fish aggregating device for local fishermen, the members also emphasized on the requirements of the island school and health center.
During the meeting they had also discussed ideas on how to expand the island’s economy, with the Vice President.
Highlighting the activities that could be undertaken by the council for the socio-economic progress of the community, VP Naseem urged members to reinforce the activities held jointly with the school to further strengthen the education system.
Pushing members to prioritize public safety, VP Naseem also called on them to ensure safety measures are followed strictly.
In addition, VP Naseem advised members to organize more awareness campaigns related to preventative health measures and requested them to work with the community in order to speed up the island’s development.
Further, VP Naseem assured the members that the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be taking required action after discussing with the ministries in order to tackle the issues at hand.
