Two suspects have been arrested over a break-in at a house in Kolamaafushi island of Gaafu Alif atoll, the Maldives Police Service has said. 

The police has apprehended a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old man; the two are charged with stealing a safe and the cash inside of it. 

The safe was found heavily damaged in a plot within the island’s woodlands, and although some of the money has been recovered, the exact stolen amount has not yet been ascertained. 

The Kolamaafushi island’s local government council offices were robbed last May as well, and a fund box outside the community mosque was stolen last year.
