The government coalition’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has publicised a campaign ethics code, which candidates contesting for parliament through the party has to adhere to.
MDP announced on Sunday that the party established their ethics code as per Article 29 of the Elections Act (Act 11/2008: English)
MDP’s ethics code disallows any anti-campaigning on the basis of gender, language, or creed, as well as expoloiting students.
Candidates are also required to adhere to tenets of Islam throughout their campaign, and are prohibited from all forms of vote buying as well as coercion.
Earlier in February, the party asked their candidates to submit financial statements; which nearly all of them have done.
MDP is fielding candidates for all but one of 87 constituencies in the upcoming People’s Majlis election, slated for April 6th.
