Transparency Maldives has called to take immediate measures against those who wee complicit in the massive corruption of embezzled state funds through state-run Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

A tweet posted in regards to a report publicized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding the MMPRC embezzlement case on Thursday, Transparency Maldives wrote that measures must be taken to ensure President’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government’s commitment to the “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” policy.

ACC publicized a report compiled on its findings regarding the allegations of the massive embezzlement through MMPRC in 2015, in which former President Abdulla Yameen has been implicated in, on Thursday.

After careful investigation and interviews with over 100 individuals and review of over 5,000 documents, ACC’s report stated that the embezzlement had cost the state at least USD 65 million.

Allegations claim that former government officials had misappropriated more than a billion dollars through corrupt transactions on island and lagoon leases which was authorized by former President Abdulla Yameen to receive by the MMPRC.

In the 776-page-long report, ACC publicized names and details of government officials who had received the embezzled funds. Funds had been received by several state-run companies and their owners.
