Male' City Council to close off four roads on Friday mornings
Roads to be closed from 8:30 am to 10:30 am on Fridays
To be put into effect starting this coming Friday

Male’ City Council has revealed its decision to close off four roads to the public on Friday mornings.

The roads are to be closed off from 8:30 am to 10:30 am on Friday, starting form this coming Friday, 15th February, as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s “Dhulhaheyo, Hashiheyo’ policy, one revolving around wellness.

Male’ City Mayor, Shifa Mohamed stated that this will lead to social bonds strengthening with citizens.

The decision was reached after discussions with the Transport Ministry and Traffic Police.

Vendors are also not allowed to operate on these roads during the period, said the Mayor.

The roads which are to be closed off are:

  • Henveiru - Lansimoo Goalhi (from Majeedhee Magu to Vaijehey Magu),
  • Galolhu - Dhon Adharaadha Hingun (from Bodu Rasgefaanu Magu to Lonuziyaaraiy Magu),
  • Mahchangoalhi - Dhanburu’madhu (from Dhaburu’goalhi to Madhoshi Goalhi) and
  • Maafannu - Sabudheli Magu (from Handhuvaree hingun to Izzudheen Magu).

Although one road from each district is to be closed off for the time being, Mayor Shifa stated that they might be increasing the duration and days in which the roads will be closed if the public cooperates.

Stating that public cooperation is needed for road safety and cleanliness, Mayor Shifa urged the people the keep the roads clean at all times.

Further, the mayor also said that construction sites are permitted to keep their equipment on the roads for a period of two days. However, some are seen to go against this.

Providing a “Jazeera” or island-like environment for families and children on the capital city roads is part of President Solih’s first 100-day pledges.
