The majority in the upcoming Parliamentary Election must be given to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, says Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, Minister Waheed stated that the new government of President Solih came into power while Maldives was at rock bottom and that President Solih coming into power was the result of the people's hard work.
“I believe President Solih still makes decisions with the involvement of other’s opinions. I believe peace has been restored to Maldives. We no longer see police officers arresting citizens from their homes. We no longer see witch hunts. We see everyone working closely together. I believe Maldives was lucky to find a leader so gentle and compassionate,” said Minister Waheed.
The minister further stated that the President does his work without differentiating between people with different beliefs and that the Ministry also carries out their work for citizens without differentiating between political parties.
“As a minister as well as someone who has contributed to the reform efforts, I would like to urge everyone to stand firm by President Solih throughout these five years. We should also give him the majority so that it will be easier for him to lead the country” said the minister.
Stating that the citizens have chosen a national government, Minister Waheed stated that it is of utmost importance that the people stick together closely throughout the next five years.
Further, the minister stated that Maldives needs stability to develop the economy and that the country needs to strengthen bonds with other countries under President Solih’s foreign policy to help restore peace. For this President Solih requires majority in Parliament, said the minister
“We are committed to give President Solih the majority. We came out to vote in the Presidential Election for the country and not for a particular party. Within his short time in office, he has proved that he does not differentiate between political beliefs and that he will govern the way the citizens desire. I want President Solih to win majority in Parliament” said Waheed.
President Solih has stated that he was chosen to lead the nation with a great deal of hope and expectations and that he will be able to fulfill the citizens wishes once ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) receives majority in Parliament.
MDP leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed has also reiterated this.
