The Elections Commission of the Maldives has extended the deadline to submit complaints regarding the voter’s registry for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections 2019.
EC revealed the extension via twitter. It had extended the deadline by seven hours, the new deadline set at 10pm on Saturday night.
Having formed the National Complain Bureau on the 30th of January, EC had initially set the deadline to 3pm on Saturday.
Voters were given until 15th January to re-register.
The extension comes as there were many individuals who wished to submit their complaints regarding the registry of eligible voters even after the time for submitting had expired. The opportunity was given to pave way for more eligible voters to cast their votes in the Parliamentary Election scheduled for 6th April.
Complaints may be submitted to island and city councils as well as the EC office.
While the election is almost upon us, EC had opened opportunity to submit bids for candidacy. So far, only ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates had submitted their bids for candidacy.
EC members had also discussed the details of placing polling stations at local resorts, with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and the Ministry of Tourism.
EC is to place ballot boxes in resorts and detention facilities with 50 eligible voters who have completed their re-registration process.
