The Maldives Institute of Technology has launched a construction safety awareness programme, which was inaugurated on Saturday.
The first session of the programme began at the institute premises at 9:00am and will continue until 4:00pm.
Manager Ibrahim Shareef told RaajjeMV that the programme is primarily focused on awareness on safety code and standards practiced in ‘other markets and countries’.
Local trainers are to speak at sessions held under the programme.
Safety at construction sites in Malé was put at scrutiny after a tragic accident in mid-December led to the fatal injury of a 7-year-old girl.
The accident had caused authorities to report that the building code, created under the construction law ratified years ago, is incomplete.
The government has since said that the code is now completed and will enacted this February.
The government, city council, as well as law enforcement have completed a city-wide assessment of sites in Malé as well.
