The MET Office has predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms

Most of the Maldives will experience rain with choppy sea conditions in some atolls, the Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has said.

The MET Office said on Saturday that islands in the central and northern atolls will experience thunderstorms as well as heavy showers. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the southern atolls are expected as well.

While the southern atolls are to experience winds of 7 to 15 miles per hour, winds are estimated to gust between 3 to 13 miles per hour in the northern atolls.

There has been turbulent weather in the central region of the Maldives through out the week, with two white alerts having been issued.

The MET Office issued a 24-hour white alert for islands between Kaafu and Laamu atolls on Friday.
