Government to fund football clubs this year as well
 
This year’s football season is set to kick off in June
 
FAM to take on the responsibility of providing funds to clubs from 2020

The government will be funding football clubs in 2019, and the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM) will be taking on the responsibility from 2020 onward, reveals FAM.

A statement released by the association on Thursday cites a meeting held between FAM President, Bassam Adeel Jaleel and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih having discussed funds provided for football clubs in the Maldives.

President Solih had stated that just like previous years, his government will be holding discussions with state companies to provide said funds to clubs for their progression, this year as well.

The statement also reads that FAM has been assured that the funds will be provided to football clubs in the near future.

FAM President also gave his full assurance to President Solih that if the funds are received from the government this year, FAM will be taking on the responsibility starting 2020.

FAM will provide the funds to clubs without dependency on other companies, the association revealed.

President Solih had also stated that his government always aimed are working for the benefit of the people and for the progression of the people.

This year’s football season is set to kick off in June.

Football clubs are currently working to acquire budgets as they prepare for the upcoming season.
