The Ministry of Tourism’s final release of statistics for 2018 reveals that in the past 12 months, over 1,400,000 tourists visited the Maldives.
This total figure is a whopping 12.4 percent higher than the tourist arrivals for 2017, the ministry’s records show.
Tourists arrivals for only December last year was also 6.8 percent higher than the amount for the same period in 2017. 150,800 tourists arrived in the Maldives in December last year alone.
Maldives gets most of her tourists from countries in Europe, and they made over 48 percent of all arrivals in 2018. 42 percent of arrivals came from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
On a country-basis, most tourists to the Maldives last year came from Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, China, India, Japan, Australia, and the United States of America. Arrivals from the United States make up for 4 percent of the total for last year.
