An individual has been arrested over the death of a 27-year-old in Hulhumalé last Friday.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed this but not clarify when the individual had been arrested.

The woman was reported dead by the Tree Top Hospital after being brought there at about 9:30pm on Friday, under peculiar circumstances.

Reports say she had suffered a suspected drug overdose. The hospital has refrained from making any further comments on the case.

The police are investigating the circumstances of her death.
