Addu City’s Meedhoo is tasked with bringing justice to the Maldives, says Mohamed Nasheed, former president and leader of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Speaking at the MDP primary election campaign for Addu-Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Nasheed said that the people of Meedhoo have always been on the frontlines in the fight for justice in the country.

Nasheed highlighted that, since 1300, most people who have worked at the courthouse are native to Meedhoo, and added that he was worried for Abdulla Saeed, who was jailed and dismissed as chief justice during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.

In his speech, Nasheed also talked about what the 19th parliament will do for Addu City. Highlighting that Addu residents have to leave their city for better opportunities, Nasheed said that work needs to be done to bring more people into Addu City. He said that MDP’s manifesto aims to populate the city and that the party needs to have a majority in the next parliament to achieve this goal.

He also said that other parties will have different goals for the country’s development but are incapable of making or fulfilling pledges.
