Maldives signs MoU with UAE on renewable energy and efficiency

The MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two countries with regard to renewable energy

Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on Tuesday.

The MoU was signed by Maldives’ Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan and UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi at a ceremony at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

According to the foreign ministry, the MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two countries with regard to renewable energy, generating the exchange of experiences relating to practices, policies, frameworks and the sharing of scientific and technological information.

The ministry stated that that the Maldives government considers this a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries and one which will help the Maldives move towards a more sustainable future according to the vision of President Solih’s Government.

The ceremony took place on the sidelines of President Solih’s official visit to the UAE. He is being accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
