A disaster management fund has been established for the first time in Maldives.

Speaking to the press after the emergency operation conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority following the flooding in capital city Male’ on the 08th of December, Director General Sofeenaz Hassan said that they had reached out to many people following that disaster.

Sofeenaz revealed that they have received relief funds amounting to MVR 1.3 million from different companies and establishments.

Highlighting that they have provided aid to repair 94% of the damages caused by the flooding, Sofeenaz said that they have stored away the remaining MVR 12,000 from the amount contributed as flood relief.

Sofeenaz said that they have given details on how the funds were spent to those who contributed, and that the authority will only be using these funds to aid in disaster management.

RaajjeMV understands that no money has been retrieved from the state funds as relief aid following the flooding, with the NDMA revealing that they had managed the funds contributed as relief aid.
