The Maldives Police Service’s neighbourhood support officers have met with elders in their respective communities.

The forum was held on Sunday night at the Iskandhar Building, police station, in capital city Malé; it was inaugurated by commissioner of police Mohamed Hameed.

At the forum, ways to reduce crime and ensure that the lives and property of people are protected were discussed.

Under the neighbourhood support program, the ‘Greater Malé Area’ has been divided into eight zones, or ‘neighbourhoods’.

Capital city Malé has been divided into four neighbourhoods, Hulhumalé into three, and Vilimalé is one single neighbourhood.

The program is part of the new government’s pledges for its first 100 days in office.
