The Maldives and Australia will continue to work together to solve international issues of mutual concern, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The President made this assertion during Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Maldives, Bryce Hutchesson’s farewell call on the President on Wednesday morning.

Emphasizing the historic and close relationship based on mutual respect, understanding and shared values that both countries have enjoyed, President Solih expressed his confidence and hope that both countries will continue to work together on international issues of mutual concern to further strengthen the existing ties between both countries. Especially in prioritized areas such as human rights, climate change and democratic consolidation.

While the Australian Ambassador made the farewell call at the President’s Office, the office stated that President Solih had extended good wishes and success to the Ambassador, in all his future endeavors.

President Solih further expressed gratitude and appreciation for the continuous support and services provided to the government and people of the Maldives during Ambassador Hutchesson’s term.

President’s Office further revealed that President Solih had went on to express his interest in working together on judicial reform, anti-corruption measures as well as human resource development.

During the call, Ambassador Hutchesson stated that it was an “immense pleasure” to have served as the Ambassador of Australia to the Maldives, going on to assure his commitment to continue working closely with the government of Maldives in “further strengthening” its bilateral relations.

Hutchesson further welcomed the Maldives decision to rejoin the commonwealth, further praising the successes of the Government’s first 100-day agenda.
