Coalition leader, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) has opened opportunity for interested members to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
MRM made the announcement via twitter on Saturday.
Interested members are required to send a text to 7965444 before 10th January.
MRM had begun interviewing candidates to contest for the election through it, on the 26th of December.
MRM was formed by the break-away faction of opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) that supports the party’s founder, Gayoom. While a case has been lodged at court against PPM, it’s leader and former President Abdulla Yameen has since begun work to form a new political party.
Other coalition partners have also opened the opportunity for members to contest in the Parliamentary Election, scheduled for April. Some parties have since given tickets without holding primaries, with MDP set to hold a primary on the 18th of January.
