Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is seeking officials to monitor its primary election.
MDP asks that those interested submit their application before 4pm, January 9.
The ruling party is also seeking observers for the primaries.
280 candidates will be contesting in the MDP’s primary election, to be held on January 18. MDP has already given its party tickets to 10 candidates since they had been the only ones vying for their parliament seats.
MDP will not be holding a primary election for Hoarafushi, Baarah, Dhidhdhoo, Milandhoo, Alifushi, Mahibadhoo, North Fuvahmulah, North Galolhu, or North Maafannu constituencies.
MDP has stated that 33,000 people submitted applications to join the party to vote in the primary election. With the new members, the ruling party’s membership has grown to over 81,000.
