Shafiu Ali, the newly appointed deputy minister at the Islamic ministry, has said he was ‘immensely surprised’ by the corruption at the ministry.
In a tweet after his appointment on Thursday, the deputy minister said he was surprised after seeing the ‘corruption that has gone beyond imagination, in his first day at work.

Shafiu said this in relation to the alleged corruption in the previous government.
Later, speaking to RaajjeMV, he said that the ministry will soon disclose the cases of corruption that has been, until now, concealed. This includes cases relating to former President Yameen’s administration.
Shafiu holds a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) from Maldives National University and has experience in the education sector.
