Home Minister Imran Abdulla has refuted allegations that former vice president Ahmed Adeeb’s transfer back to prison was unlawful.
In a tweet on Thursday, Minister Imran said ‘Doctors advised Adeeb to kept in a homely environment on 24th October, 2018. Doctors had not advised as such after 24th December, 2018. Adeeb’s health and medical care will be looked after as per regulations, we will not suppress the constitutional and human rights of any individual”.
Doctors had advised Adeeb to be kept in a ‘homely environment’ for two months according to his family, he was transferred to house arrest until 27th January. However, Adeeb was taken into custody on Wednesday day.
Adeeb’s Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD) has expressed concerned about their elected party leader being transferred back to prison.
The MTD said that Minister Imran had given them personal guarantees that Adeeb would not be transferred and calle don authorities to consider his ‘right to medical care a serious matter’.
