A number of shark carcasses were discovered in on a foreign vessel seized by Maldivian authorities last week, the Maldives National Defence Force has said.

Brigadier General Ali Zuhair said that the vessel appeared to have been fishing and most of the crew’s one-ton yield was shark.

The ‘Oshadi 1’ is registered in Sri Lanka and was caught operating in Maldives’ special economic zone outside of Gaafu Dhaal atoll.

Members of the crew were apprehended 42 nautical miles off of Gadhdhoo island on Wednesday, 19th December. They were handed over to the Maldives Police Service on Wednesday night.
