MPL will be charging MVR 10 per person

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced their decision to charge for bus travel from the ‘Greater Malé Area’ terminals.

MPL will be charging MVR 10 (about 65 cents) per person for every bus ride, although children below the age of two and individuals over the age of 65 will not be charged.

There are ‘Greater Malé Area’ terminals in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Hulhulé; buses travel between said three islands and thus have been free of charge.

The MPL will also be issuing a prepaid travel card for regular commuters, which costs MVR 20 (about one dollar).

MPL operates 22 buses between Malé, Hulhumalé, and Hulhulé. The state-run company provides bus services in Addu City and Laamu Atoll.
