Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has begun a survey of Maldivians returning from abroad to assess Maldives’ balance of payments.
The survey to assess the transactions between Maldivians and other countries will be carried out from December 24 to 30.
The purpose of the survey is to gain information on the countries Maldivians visit and the cost of tickets, accommodation, medical treatment, and other expenses. MMA assures that they will not ask for personal information and will keep the survey results anonymous.
Teams from MMA will be working in shifts to carry out the survey for 24 hours a day at Velana International Airport’s arrival hall.
The result of the mid-year survey shows that most Maldivians still travel to India for medical treatment and go to Sri Lanka for the holidays.
