The Elections Commission has received application to form a new political party, believed to be that of former president Abdulla Yameen.

The commission said on Monday that they have received applications to form a party by the name of ‘People’s National Congress’, which was filed on Sunday.

Reports of Yameen attempting to form a new political party surfaced last week, as a case contesting his leadership of the Progressive Party of Maldives is being heard before the Supreme Court.
