Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is accepting complaints regarding the voters list for its primary election.
Afshan Latheef, the deputy secretary general of the MDP office, said they will be accepting complaints until December 27.
MDP’s membership committee member Ahmed Shahid said they have so far received over a thousand complaints and that most of it are regarding names missing from the list.
Only those who submitted their membership application before 11am, December 7, are eligible to vote in MDP’s primary election. After more than 33,000 people submitted their application to vote in the primaries, the number of MDP members have increased to over 81,000.
280 members have given their applications to contest in the primary election, they are 259 men and 21 women. While MDP has decided to contest for all 87 parliament seats, no party candidate has requested to contest for Nilandhoo constituency, while nine candidates are contesting for the Villimale’ seat.
MDP has stated that 10 candidates have received the ticket to contest in the parliament election due to them being the only ones who requested to contest for the corresponding seats.
