The cement bag, which fell and fatally injured a 7-year-old girl, tore while it was being raised, the company operating the site has said.
W Construction told RaajjeMV on Wednesday that the cement bag was being raised by a rope when it hit a metal pole on the 5th floor of the building. No Maldivian supervisors were on the site at the time.
The company said that it has been supporting the family of the girl and that they will ensure that such an accident does not occur again.
The Malé City Council has suspended all construction licenses given to the company, as it conducts an inspection of other sites in the capital city.
