The Indian government has officially welcomed Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is making a historic official visit to the neighbouring country.

Solih was welcomed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed were welcomed with a presentation of arms and a 21-gun salute from the Indian military.

Solih is to enter into a number of agreements with India during this visit; the president will also call on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other senior officials of the Indian government.

President Solih left on December 16th and is to conclude the visit on December 18th.
