President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with national council members of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Monday night to discuss candidates for the parliament election.

RaajjeMV understands that the President also discussed maintaining the government coalition, at the meeting at the official presidential residence, Mulee-aage.

A reliable source told RaajjeMV that President Solih also discussed the possibility that coalition partners might discuss gaining support for their candidates in the parliament election, since MDP has already announced that it would be contesting for every constituency.

RaajjeMV was told that the President did not hold any government-related discussions with the MDP council.

While the President’s Office did not announce the meeting, some members of the MDP council shared photos of them with President Solih on social media. No details of the unofficial MDP meeting was disclosed, either.

This was President Solih’s first meeting with the party’s national council members since assuming office.
