National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) has revealed that only one out of the two families that were vacated due to damages incurred due to Wednesday's flooding, is currently under its care.
Speaking to press on Thursday, the center’s Project Coordinator Ihsan Hassan stated that a total of two households were vacated and two of the families had been under their care, accommodated at a guest house following the continuous squally rain showers that flooded the capital city Male’ on Wednesday afternoon, flooding homes and damaging property.
While one of two families have since returned home, RaajjeMV understands that the other family remains under the center’s care as there has been a block in the sewer system of the household.
Ihsan revealed that the family will be taken home as soon as the block is fixed.
“We kept the two families in a guest house till this morning. One of the households have since been fixed so we have taken them home: said Ihsan.
Following the flood, state provided temporary shelter for 20 individuals with the NDMC paying for their living expenses until they return home.
Since Wednesday, local businesses have been generously donating as aid for relief to the flood-stricken families.
