Local telecommunications company Dhiraagu has donated a sum of MVR 200,000 to the National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) after Wednesday’s flooding of capital city Malé.

Dhiraagu’s Managing Director Ismail Rasheed said that the company will assist the state in any way it can to relieve the situation.

“I guarantee that we will be giving the disaster management center all the support we can”, Rasheed said.

Dhiraagu is among several other companies, including state-run enterprises, that have donated directrly to the NDMC; which includes the State Trading Organization, the State Electricity Company, and the military welfare Sifainge Cooperative.

The NDMC said that these companies have supplied the center with drinking water and food to aid Malé city residents affected by the flooding.

A total of two households have been vacated while 160 were incurred damage due to the flooding. The state has provided temporary shelter for 20 individuals.
