Former police intelligence chief superintendent Mohamed Hameed has been appointed as the assistant police commissioner
RaajjeMV understands that Hameed was presented the letter of appointment by Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed on Tuesday.
This comes after the Supreme Court ordered his reinstatement to the police service.
Hameed was dismissed as superintendent in 2012 after being accused of leaking confidential information. The allegedly leaked information was on the plan to overthrow former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. However, no charges were pressed against him.
Following his removal, the Civil Court had issued an order to reinstate him but the order was nullified by the High Court.
Journalists at the Supreme Court hearing reported that Hawwa Sana, an attorney at the Prosecutor General’s office, had testified that Hameed's dismissal was unlawful.
