Ex-Pres Maumoon makes first visit to MDP office
This is their second meeting since uniting to ‘restore democracy’ in 2017, the first one was held on November 15

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom visited Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s head office for the first time on Thursday.
Maumoon was in the office to attend the second official meeting of the leaders of the Joint-Party coalition and was accompanied by son, Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon.
The former president was welcomed at the MDP office by the party’s leader and his successor, former President Mohamed Nasheed, along with the other two leaders in the coalition- Adhaalath Party leader Imran Abdulla and leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim.
While the parliamentary elections are to be held in March next year, they held discussions on whether the parties will contest together or separately. They have not disclosed any details on the matter.
Speaking to the press after, the leaders stated that they will decide ‘on something that all four leaders agree on’.
However, all four leaders maintain that the coalition will ‘remain intact’.
According to a credible source, the parties will be contesting separately.
