Komandoo MP Ahmed Nashid of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been elected chairperson of parliament’s public finance committee.
Also at the public finance committee meeting on Monday, Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir was elected as vice chairperson of the committee.
The government coalition has received the majority in many significant parliament committees after they were re-shuffled following the reinstatement of 12 MPs.
The public finance committee now consists of seven members from the government coalition, five members of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and one member of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
The public finance committee is tasked with assessing the state budget and finances as well as holding relevant institutions accountable.
