Commissioner of Prisons at the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) Ahmed Shihan has been dismissed from his post.
RaajjeMV understands that CP Shihan was dismissed from his duties on Thursday evening.
Shihan’s dismissal comes at a time he has come under fire for alleged discrimination between prison convicts during former President Abdulla Yameen’s tenure, as well as for the tyranny and torture they were subject to during President Yameen’s tenure. Many continue to claim that the former Commissioner of Prisons must be held accountable for this.
He is also accused of creating obstacles in the medical rights of some detainees, with many accusing him of being behind the obstruction of medical rights to detained former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, who has recently undergone surgery after months suffering from ailing health.
Shihan is also accused of negligence in the many deaths of prison convicts.
Former President Yameen appointed Shihan as Commissioner of Prisons at MCS in April 2016.
