Former parliamentarian and current advisor to opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed, Abdul Jabir, has been appointed special envoy to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Jabir, also a prominent businessman, was appointed on Thursday. In a post on his Twitter account, Jabir said that he will serve faithfully in his newly appointed position.

His tweet translates to, “I thank President Ibrahim Solih, with the guarantee that I will faithfully serve the Maldivian republic and the state”.

Jabir has served in parliament as the representative for Huvadhoo atoll and the Kaashidhoo constituency in separate terms.

The former parliamentarian has been a staunch critic of President Yameen, especially after the state froze assets belonging to his Yacht Tours company, on claims on outstanding credit to the state.
