The meeting took place on Monday

Ambassador of India to the Maldives, Akhilesh Mishra and Ambassador of China to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhong called on Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Monday.

While both ambassadors had met with the minister separately, RaajjeMV understands that Mishra had expressed his gratitude to the Maldives for the hospitality extended to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the nation to attend President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration on the 17th of November.

Discussions were held between the Indian Ambassador and Minister Shahid of developments that may be proceeded with the commemoration of the new government, and the pair also talked about Minister Shahid’s upcoming trip to India’s Delhi from the 26th to the 28th of November to hold important discussions about areas mutually beneficial to both countries.

Mishra was accompanied by First Policy Secretary at the Embassy of India in Maldives, Archana Nair.

Ambassador Lizhong had also expressed his gratitude to the Maldives for the hospitality extended to China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Luo Shugang who attended President Solih’s inauguration as a special delegate of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping.

The Chinese Ambassador highlighted Minister Luo’s courtesy call on President Solih, thanking the new government for its hospitality. Lizhong noted that both countries had discussed ways in which their bonds may be strengthened with the commemoration of the new government.

Discussions of past and upcoming development projects between the two nations were also held between the Chinese Ambassador and Minister Shahid. They further discussed on progress is areas of mutual interest between the two nations as well as Minister Shahid’s trip to China, scheduled at year-end.

Shahid was joined by Maldives Secretary Bilateral Ahmed Khaleel and Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mariyam Midhfa Naeem at both meetings.
