South-Galolhu constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof has on Saturday resigned from the People's Majlis, Maldives' unicameral parliament.

MP Mahloof, who was on Friday night conferred the Defender of Democracy Award by international non-profit Parliamentarians for Global Action, announced this through a tweet.

Mahloof's tweet translates to, 'I have resigned from my position as the parliamentary representative for the south-Galolhu constituency. I sincerely thank my constituents for their trust, support, and love since I took the office in 2009'.

The resignations come ahead of Saturday night's ceremony to swear in the ministerial cabinet for President Ibrahim Solih, who took his oath of office earlier this evening.
