Criminal Court has cancelled a hearing regarding former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s habeas corpus plea after authorities refused to escort him to the court.
Adeeb’s attorney Moosa Siraj said that prisons commissioner Ahmed Shihan refused to escort him to the court hearing on Monday.
In the tweet, Moosa Siraj said that Adeeb, who is currently hospitalized, had been ready to attend the hearing even in a wheelchair or stretcher and that the permission slips from doctors had been sent to the correctional service.

The Criminal Court had been set to give its verdict regarding Adeeb’s imprisonment on Monday’s hearing.
In the habeas corpus plea, Adeeb’s legal team claimed that his imprisonment is unlawful and that authorities have not been abiding by doctor’s recommendations during his detention.
Adeeb is serving a 33-year prison sentence on multiple counts of corruption and terrorism for his involvement in the attempted assassination of President Abdulla Yameen and the MMPRC embezzlement scandal.
Adeeb developed various health issues after his imprisonment, including kidney stones, internal cysts, and glaucoma and is currently admitted at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after a sudden health deterioration on Friday night.
