Central Hithadhoo MP and retired Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi’s terrorism-related charges have been dismissed.

The state charges were regarding the arrest of a judge during Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s government.

While the charges were dismissed on Sunday, MP Didi said that the Prosecutor General’s Office earlier recommended that the charges be dropped as well but that the Criminal Court at the time stated that the trial will move forward.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Defense Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu were sentenced to prison over the arrest and detention of the judge during their administration. While Colonel Ziyad and then-defense chief Moosa Ali were also charged, the court found them not guilty over lack evidence.

MP Didi’s state obstruction charge for entering the parliament building during a lockdown was also dismissed.
