Parliament committee approves November 17 for Solih’s inauguration
The motion was forwarded to the committee at Sunday's sitting

MP Rozaina said Solih has relented to the state's decision to hold his inauguration on November 17

The parliament committee has approved November 17 as the inaugural date of president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and vice-president-elect Faisal Naseem.

According to committee member, Meedhoo constituency MP Rozaina Adam all seven members voted in favor of November 17 as the inauguration date. 

She said that Solih has relented to the state's decision to hold his inauguration on November 17, since he wants to put the nation first.

68 MPs voted in favor of forwarding the motion to decide on Solih’s inauguration to the committee at Sunday’s sitting.

All Maldives presidents, except Abdulla Yameen, were inaugurated on November 11, Republic Day. Due to various issues in the 2013 election, President Yameen’s inauguration was postponed to 17 November 2013 and he has said that he will remain as president until November 17.
